THEO
To Honor Each Other
Parents & Caregivers
Objective: To provide caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to support their children who have siblings with FASD. The program will focus on enhancing caregivers' understanding of FASD, improving family dynamics, and providing strategies for emotional and behavioral support.
-
Enhanced Understanding of FASD: Caregivers will gain in-depth knowledge of FASD, including its impact on both the child with FASD and their siblings. This understanding will enable caregivers to better address the unique challenges their family faces, ensuring that all children’s needs are met with empathy and informed care.
-
Improved Family Dynamics: The program will equip caregivers with strategies to create a more harmonious and supportive family environment. By learning effective communication and conflict resolution skills, caregivers will be able to foster stronger, more positive relationships among all family members, reducing tension and promoting unity.
-
Emotional and Behavioral Support Strategies: Caregivers will be provided with practical tools and techniques to support the emotional and behavioral needs of their children, especially those without FASD who may feel overlooked. These strategies will help caregivers address the stress and emotional challenges that siblings of children with FASD often experience, ensuring that every child feels supported and valued.
-
Empowerment Through Advocacy: The program will empower caregivers to advocate effectively for all their children, ensuring that both the child with FASD and their siblings receive the support they need. This advocacy will extend beyond the home, helping caregivers navigate educational, medical, and social systems to secure the best possible resources and support for their family.
-
Comprehensive Support Resources: Caregivers will be connected with a network of resources, including community support, educational materials, and peer networks. This comprehensive support system will provide ongoing assistance, ensuring that caregivers are never alone in their journey and have the tools they need to sustain their family’s well-being over the long term.
